And you get hardware repair coverage -- both parts and labor -- on your iPad, its battery, and included accessories."
Some people are stating in their reviews that the plan provides 3 years of protection, which includes user damage. Neither the warranty that comes with the iPad nor the extended warranty covery user damage. The warranties cover defects inherent in the product.

Registration code worked fine and process to registration for extra warranty coverage was smooth. Now my iPad is covered until 2012!!!
I saved a good amount of money by purchasing AppleCare Protection for iPad from here, instead of Apple store and very happy about it~!

It includes an extra year of coverage for the hardware and gives you a full two years of technical support instead of the 90 days that's include by default. You need to buy it and activate it while your iPad is still covered by the 1 year warranty. As far as I know the warranty terms are the same and this just provides an extra year of coverage.
The price from Amazon and other vendors is usually better than Apple's price and I've never had problems getting the protection plans activated. One thing to keep in mind is that you may already have an extended warranty through your credit card if you used one of the many credit cards that extends a manufacturer's warranty so this may not be something you need.
Apple just launched a new AppleCare+ plan for iPhones that covers accidental damage. It needs to be purchased new with an iPhone and I wonder if they'll do the same for the iPad. Might be worth it to wait... Read more
